Should I add backspin to my dice control throws?

Hey, I’m relatively new to this whole craps thing—only been playing for about two years, you know? But it’s just recently that I’ve really started digging into different betting strategies. I’ve been trying to get a handle on dice control, and wow, I must have watched hundreds of hours of videos online! Right now, I’m practicing by throwing into a small bucket. Here’s the funny thing: after all those videos, I haven’t really come across one that talks about how much backspin, if any, you should actually put on the dice. Isn’t that weird? They all seem to focus on dice setting and where they land.

I’ve watched guys throw inline, and there’s not much spin on the dice when they do it that way. So, I practice both methods into my bucket. I’ve even tried tossing inline a few times at my local casino, and honestly? I acn’t say I’ve noticed much of a difference in my throws. I try to watch other players too, but most of them don’t even set the dice—they just chuck ’em down the table!

Personally, I feel way more comfortable with two fingers on the front of the dice and my thumb behind; it just helps me hit my landing zone better. So, here’s my big question: how much backspin should you have on your dice, if any at all?

just something to think about… if your toss is getting more than 3 or 4 revs, it’s probably safe to assume it gets trickier to keep both dice perfectly in sync (even if they’re both spinning on the right axis). 😉 (but hey, that’s just looking at the pure ‘consistency’ side of the physics… Pre LZ).

Craps tables aren’t all the same, lol! The spot where you’re tossing from can change things by a few feet. The landing zones totally vary! You might roll 20 times one day, and then 7 out the next… or not even make 5 rolls before getting nailed by that 7! You gotta find your personal landing zone, seriously. If I’m not close enough, I’ll 7 out for sure. I seem to do way better when I’m closer to the wall! The dice absolutely have to land flat. Try tossing from the 22 inside… just keep.at it till you find your groove! I’ve had amazing 25 to 28 roll hands, but other days it’s like starting over. Mixing up your dice sets or tipping a die can really help the outcome!

So, I use a two finger grip middle and ring finger. I try to shoot from stick left 3 or 4. Once the dice are set, I grip ’em and tilt the numbers toward the ceiling, back of my hand to the table. Honestly, my dice usually spin two or three solid rotations before they hit my spot. It’s a pretty consistent little move!

Crap tables are made of birch.

All you need is a half sheet of plywood and a rubber mat for a backstop to practice on.

It’s not just how you shoot but how you bet.

Or try to recover bet and press when I’m winning.

And bet less when the table goes cold.

Don’t lose your start up money.

When your number hits, take it down.

Get paid.

4 to 5 hits I’m over a hundred bucks.

I bet 50 on 5, 60 on 6 and 8, 10 dollar field.

Collect, drop to 18, still make 11 if the field hits.

5 rolls and I’m out.

When you’re playing with the casino’s money you can be brave.

Don’t lose your start up money.

You can use a piece of felt for a cover.

No table iss the same.

You have to always find the constant groove.

Oh man, let me tell you, this whole dice control thing? I honestly think it’s just total bullshit voodoo. You know what I mean? Like, seriously, just try it sometime. Go to a real table with all those chi ps spread out and try your fancy toss. I guarantee you’re gonna miss most of them. It feels like one of those things that sounds cool in theory but falls apart the second real money is on the line, you know what I’m saying?

I think there are countless strategies out there. It really depends on what you want. If you plan to let your bets ride, I definitely prefer a mid press. If you want to hit a couple times and then pull back, I absolutely love a strategy from Hawaii Craps Shooters on YouTube called the Hawaii 5 0. It costs $204 to start. Any box number pays 50 to 1. I believe if yyou can roll 4 or 5 times without hitting a seven, you can make great money. Then you pull back and play with your winnings. I also really like a Come Bet sometimes, but that’s just my personal taste.

Getting your own table is a graet decision your game will improve tenfold with proper instruction. Don’t overthink the perfect toss or exact backspin yet; you’ll adjust step by step. Focus on the results. Once you see what you want say, 1‑3 rolls simply repeat exactly what you did: same set, same grip, same focus, same toss, same landing zone.
