You know, if you ever find yourself in Vegas, or really any of those big, sprawling casinos, you’ll notice something interesting about some of the tables. Most of them, actually, have these single or double deck games you know, where the dealer shuffles the cards right there at the table. It feels a bit more personal, a bit more connected to the game, I always thhink. Anyway, the real hitch, the little catch to it all, is that he doesn’t shuffle after every hand, not at all. No, he’ll go through about half the deck maybe a little more, maybe a little less and then, almost casually, he’ll gather everything up and give it a good shuffle. It makes you wonder about the rhythm of it, how it changes your counting, if you’re into that sort of thing. It’s funny how such a small rule can shape the whole feel of sitting at that green felt.
