Tried to convince a slots-only player to try craps? I have. No luck.

They call it complicated. I say learn one bet. Repeat it. Pass line. Or place 6 or 8. Low house edge.

Don’t learn every bet to start. Stick to low-edge bets. You’ll beat any slot machine.

My uncle exclusively plays video poker at the casino. During a fishing trip, he brought a craps mat. We played craps for a nickel per b et. He won approximately $10, primarily from the pass line and occasional place bets on the 6 and 8. Several nights later at the casino, he bought in for $100 at a craps table. We played the don’t bets. He lasted for about 90 minutes before losing his bankroll.

He previously stated he would only play video poker at the casino. However, two low stakes craps sessions at home provided him a foundational understanding of the game. This removed his intimidation of the casino craps table.

Try this method. Maintain extremely low stakes, such as a nickel or dime per bet.

Man, I avoided Craps for, like, years! I totally thought it was this super complicated mess, y’know? Finally, my curiosity got the best of me, so I went with a buddy who actually knew the game. I don’t encourage anyone to take up craps. Frankly, I find the tables are already too crowded. I personally don’t enjoy the long waits between shooting. Even when I go mid week in the early morning here in Indiana, the tables that are open are usually packed. For me, real happiness is finding an empty table to shoot on.

Trying to teach craps to my friends and family is like herding cats at a casino! I see their eyes light up, then cloud over the second I dive into the hardways, the field, the pass line odds. Begin with the same bankroll and reconvene in a few hours to compare. Those slot machines are money pits. Unless you hit a rare jackpot, or you stop when you’re ahead there’s no chance. If they pay out, say, 95% or 97%, after you remove the funding for those rare jackpots, only a small percentage goes to the average player. Craps, with discipline, is easy to manage a bankroll. That’s my firm opinion.
